First Day of the Storm
“She’s coming!”
Everyone looked up from their work to see the scout on his horse--and far behind him, the incoming storm. Appearing just as it had every year, clouds slowly accumulated in the sky, growing in size and ferocity. Everyone dropped their tasks and dashed for their homes, their storehouses, and their fields, gathering their family members and supplies for the days to come. They weren’t prepared this year; it had come much earlier than in previous years. As the scout arrived in the village, he smacked his horse to send her away from the incoming storm before running through the panick
The branches on the birch trees grow heavy and dense. The passing of time brings Summer to Fall and Fall to Winter, each day growing colder and colder until tonight, when the first snow strikes. The woods whistle into the night as the wind creeps on through the boughs and bends on the trees and the snow blankets the ground in tiny increments of white, growing slowly but steadily with only a few disruptions from the buildups growing in the treetops. Calm as it may seem, this is a mad maiden of a blizzard. The snow only grows and grows, a young child of three would be up to her midsection in the snow now. The rodents and other small animals hav
The screeches and wails came from all around us. I told Megan to stay close as I scanned around the waves of sand but the dark night sky made it near-impossible to discern the approaching figures. When they finally did show themselves, I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were monsters, monsters without description. They were formless, shapeless, always changing and shifting in the shadows of the moonless night. I swung my blade at the monstrosities, but my every slash seemed only as effective as a punch to a downy pillow. Thinking fast, I looked for an opening, grabbed Megan’s arm, and ran. What were these things?!

The grain-laced winds pushed and swirled upon my armor, threatening to enter any crack or crevice it could find. Fortunately, my armor was designed without such flaws and a film of unyielding glass spared my eyes from the vicious sands. However, the maiden was not having as pleasant a time as me. She clutched on to my gauntlets with all her might, head down and eyes closed, doing her best to keep from being swept away in the sands. She was crying, wailing out sorrowful pleas of apology to her family, to me, to everyone she had ever known. She was clearly unprepared for even the weather present out here. I kept ahold of her and continued braci

The Dock Market was extremely crowded, even this early in the morning. Everybody in the open dock space had to cautiously shimmy around our group and Lunus. We were still getting wary looks from a few of the people we passed, but many more of them greeted us as we passed, some of the younger crowds even asked to pet Lunus. I indulged them, told them how to properly pet Lunus, and kept a sharp eye on him in case they started to annoy him. Lunus however wasn’t at all bothered by the attention, in fact he seemed to really enjoy it. After being stopped four times by young kids, we finally reached the apparel stand. The cool, dark breeze flowed through the downy feather atop my deep purple helmet. It chilled the rest of my armor through and through, yet I felt nothing. As a Guardian of the Dark, I have trained to show no remorse and no weakness, even in the face of the towering Light. I am known as the Shadow Knight, the strongest and most intelligent of all the craze-infested monsters lurking around the marshes of the Dark Realm. I eternally stand at my post atop the hill, towering over the Border Gate. Nothing crosses the rusted gates of the Border and escapes my eye and nothing that I deem a threat is allowed to pass.

I found myself in the dream of the beach again. Lunus was there as always and the two of us played about in the surf and field. However, something was a little off about Lunus. He seemed more… upset and less energized than before. He took more than a few moments to himself in the water without me, staring off to the edge of the horizon. I didn’t know how dreams work so I took a guess that my brain was still dwelling on the intrusion of those two Hunters from earlier and it was showing through Lunus in my dream. Even though I knew he wasn’t real, I decided to join him out in the water and comfort him. “Hey buddy”

“You two get the Deluxe-size Hunter’s Suite” Marend exclaimed as we walked through the wooden alleyways “well, aren’t you two a lucky pair of Poogies!” I had to chuckle at that statement. “C’mon, Marend, it’s not like I asked for this, the Chief just gave it to me” I shot back. “Probably more for Lunus’ size than your comfort,” said Gloria who was trailing behind us with Lunus and the Klavs in tow “He is an adult monster after all.” She was right too. When we got to the wooden building the Chief assigned us, I noticed that the double doors were barely bi

As I spoke with the Chief, Gloria and her team joined us at the table and brought with them a giant platter of Gastronome Tuna for Lunus. We all couldn’t help but chuckle as Lunus dove into the dish and chowed down. While we were all eating, I told the Chief everything; my encounter with Lunus, our weeks together, on until I talked about how we met the Hunters. I didn’t tell him anything about how Lunus saved my life from the sleep bullet or about my strange dreams, I figured I was already stretching belief with just my monster companion alone. Halloween Features (Part 2) 2018
Hello, everyone! Here I am with the second half of my Halloween features, which will focus on the written word.
Just a quick note: As it's Halloween, these stories will all be thematically scary or disturbing, and will probably be so to a much greater degree than any of the art in part 1 of this feature. As such, please proceed with caution if you are easily frightened or offended. Having said that, some of them are pretty tame, so it's really down to your personal judgement whether you want to read them or not :D
First, I have for you this wonderful story of mythological proportions, about Death and Fate and such things as these.
Thank yo

Mid-Year Features 2018 (Part 2)
Hello again! Here's part two of my mid-year features, dealing with some fantastic literature and comics from the community of DA artists and authors!
First up is one of my favourite DA authors, Nocturnaliss (https://www.deviantart.com/nocturnaliss) , with this glorious poetic offering, 'Nightsky':
Nocturnaliss has a Patreon page, and is currently working on a fantasy novel, so if you love lyrical fantasy fiction with sweeping themes and unique characters, I can recommend having a look at her website. Here are some links:
